One question for all of you out there...
Did you vote today?
Sometimes these off year elections can have more of a profound effect on your day to day life than the big ones. These smaller election years contain the local nuts-n-bolts that keep a great deal of your local stuff going.
I did vote this morning before I came into work this morning. Yes, I was the "good" citizen and put my "two-cents" in our wonderful American political machine. Now I'll be glad of some quiet evenings at home. My local city area has had quite the heated mayoral race between two new possibilities. The incumbent retired and it left the field wide open, and I swear that back before the Utah primaries that every Tom, Dick, Sally, and Harriet was putting in their bid for the position. I don't understand really--- Who would want to be a Mayor? I think it would be the last thankless job there was in the political scheme of things.
Since the primary, it's been narrowed down to two possibilities. I tell you I'm so glad to have this be the last day of this because both of these candidates have been hitting the campaign trail pretty darn hard. I've been getting calls almost every other night from one or the other's helpers. Flyers galore have been hung on my door knob. I've even had people that have knocked and wanted to discuss their candidates with me. I was almost to the point a few nights ago of telling the guy on the phone that if they guarantee to have no more calls, no personal visits, or no more flyers--- HELL, I would vote for their candidate! I didn't!! But BELIEVE me; it was very, VERY tempting.
I understand they are all just trying to get the word out, and trying to encourage people to vote in an off year where the voter turn out is usually low, but MAN!!! It can be rather frustrating to be a registered declared independent voter sometimes! Maybe I'm asking for it by being undeclared? I sometimes wonder about that. I just feel I can't necessarily tie myself to one particular party line. Gee, I guess in my own way I have commitment issues?
But my other concern for this whole thing is that I'm always amazed at what all these candidates in general will say or do to get into office but then.... it's like some of them just disappear into the woodwork. Now what's up with that?
(I just noticed your reaction buttons. I'm awake)
ReplyDeleteYes, I voted, but felt very uninformed this time around. And yes, I'm always glad when it's over.
