I got on the scale this morning. Then, immediately jumped off to make sure the scale was calibrated. Then, jumped on and admired the number it read. Yes, I finally broke a barrier! Granted, it wasn’t a sound barrier in my bathroom but a barrier none the less. I broke that “I have 10 lbs. to go” barrier. I now only have 8 more to go. Yahoo! A BIG Thumbs up!
For almost 3 weeks, my weight has seemed too settled in comfortably 10 lbs. above my goal weight. Who knows what created the barrier to be broken? It could have been the cold last weekend that finally threw the stalemate to the curb or my extra diligence in choosing those low calories options this last week. But whatever it was I’m really hoping to make it continue on. What can I say I am literally trying to work my A$$ off? :) Oh, so sorry for the cliche use!
On another note, I’ve decided to add a page to my blog that’s totally devoted to my bucket list. I’ll update and of course, probably blog as bucket items get checked off the list. I’m still debating on what items to work on first. Though, I’ve all ready been offered access to a pair of roller blades. I rather surprised myself when I discovered that I’ve been to 20 out of the 50 states. Wow and here I thought I was really not that well traveled at all. Though, I still consider myself just a step barely above a country bumpkin. :)

Losing the Cold Wars...
Since late Friday afternoon, I’ve been fighting a cold. I felt better Saturday morning and met Diane for a swim. Ouch! Can you say, “BIG Mistake!”? I only managed to swim ¾ of a mile and felt like I was going to drown twice; an accomplishment of sorts? The rest of Saturday and Easter Sunday went by in a sleep infested haze. Monday morning arrived and I was still feeling crummy. I called in sick; my first sick day of this year. (Not that I was going for a record or employee of the year or anything like that. Not quite my style.)
This cold has been making the rounds in the office, and on its fifth round it sucker punched me bad! It was SO unfair. I officially blame it on this April weather we’ve been having. How can a body adapt? I was watching from my desk yesterday afternoon and within an hour’s time the weather had gone from cold cloudy gloom to rain to sleet to hail to snow to sleet and back to rain. Hello! Mother Nature could you please just choose one for the day?! Of course, she (Mother Nature) finally chose on cold and partly cloudy by the time I went home which was a good thing because I had the clothes to dress for that.
Fighting this cold has been an uphill battle much like the battle of the bulge. Only this battle I'm a zombie walking with arms out and arrows are being thrown down at me. I'm too un-alert to avoid them and when each arrow hits I get an extra ache or pain that wasn't there before. But at least as I go uphill I'm getting a bit more and more alert; not the walking dead as much.
So I’ve been taking extra vitamins, night time cold medicine, day time cold medicine, Thera- Flu medicine, drinking hot beverages ( herbal teas and of course, coffee), and consuming plenty of soup; variations of chicken noodle like soups. Added to all of this I’m drinking plenty of cranberry juice; about a cup of cranberry juice with almost every meal. My philosophy on cranberry juice is that it’s the cure-all for what ever may ell me. Most times when I get a cold the first thing on my grocery list is a big bottle of cranberry juice; everything else is an after thought. I guess I could be a commercial for the cranberry industry. I can just see if now me on TV saying,”… You want to win the Cold Wars? Drink plenty of cranberry juice!” Naw! Maybe not.

Wish Me Luck...
Tomorrow at this time, I'm hoping that I'll be done with my half of the Park City Marathon that I'm running. Or should I say... I might be "wogging" ( a cross between a walk and a jog)? Why will I probably be "wogging" instead of running?
Well, this last week I've been down with the "Gamboo". It was a combination of the summer cold/ stomach flu. I was basically sick from when I woke up this last Saturday morning till Wednesday morning when I finally started to feel semi-human again. So, I'm really not sure what to expect for my performance for the half marathon tomorrow. About two weeks ago, I ran 14.25 miles up & down a local canyon. So I felt I was pretty well prepared but given this last week. I'm not sure what to expect. Keep your fingers crossed!

Sick & Busy...(NOT a Good Mix!)
Hello! I haven't written in here like I usually do. I've been sick and busy... I feel like my life is on hold while I try to get my act together (if that's possible?). Meanwhile, I will admit that I've been a bit of a grump, and I feel a bit like this cat in the picture or so I imagine.
I came down with the cold last Friday that's been making the rounds around the office. YUCK! Stuffy head, congested chest, and just general tiredness. It came just in time so that I could enjoy the Memorial holiday in bed. Sleep, sleep, and more sleep...I'm trying to get rid of the darn thing. I went to bed on Friday afternoon after work and stayed mostly in bed until Sunday afternoon. I started feeling a little more human then but only ventured from home to pick up another batch of NyQuil on Sunday night. Otherwise, I was parked on the love seat underneath a blanket and going between watching a movie or reading a book. Monday, I felt a bit like a hermit venturing out. I went with a friend to dinner, a bit of shopping, and then coffee at Barnes & Nobles.
My taste buds are still off... where they went---I don't know. This morning I had to have one of the guys taste the coffee. It didn't taste right to me. He said it was my normal real strong brew as his face pucker up a bit. Food doesn't taste right to me yet, and you would hope that maybe I would be losing weight because I'm not eating. Nope, I'm not doing anything exercise either though. So it's all a wash. I will cough in spurts, usually when I need to talk to someone on the phone (Oooopps, sorry to cough in your ear.) or when I seem to have discovered I left all of the cough drops at home (Good old Murphy's Law at work).
But on top of all of this sickness, I've been pretty busy. We had inventory at work last Friday. Now everything that was on hold due to inventory needs to be done YESTERDAY! Then things have stepped up on the Little Red Riding Hood ride with it approaching this Saturday. The volunteers are pouring in or volunteers that were set up are now unable to make it after all for whatever reasons, and then there's all of the working out the details and getting them to the volunteers. I AM AMAZED that Diane did this all by herself last year and kept her sanity. You are AWESOME Diane!
So anyway that's why I haven't written in here in awhile... I hope you understand. Of course, that's figuring that anyone is actually reading my dribble...? ;-)

The Edge of Sickness & Strange Dreams

The last three days I have been struggling on the edge of not getting sick. For the last two months there has been this terrible cold that’s been circulating through the office~ enough so that it’s hit one coworker twice. (She doesn’t have much of an immune system.) It’s kind of like I have a sore throat when I get up in the morning but after my second cup of joe it’s disappeared. Then there’s the mild headache that rather gets worse and worse as the day goes on. I’ve been overdosing on vitamin C, doing the B-complex, doling up the Echinacea, and trying to eat healthy all in the effort of trying to avoid the “sickness”. I’ve even been doing the lots of fluid thing and visiting the bathroom like a zillion times a day. But I feel like a large hand is still trying to clamp down on my body; slowly but surely. Help!?!
I tend to wonder as a side effect of all this stuff I’m trying to do to avoid this sickness is causing me to have these REALLY strange dreams. Like last night’s dream....
I woke up with light blue skin and bright green hair in a pair of pony tails. I was an Irish Smurfette? I was dressed in a blue and white gingham mini-skirt like apron (kind of Dorothy-like) with black capris and one purple argyle sock. No shoes; just the one sock? I was convinced that it was a Donny Osmond reject.
This dream world that I woke up in had a light green sky, the grass was purple, and the water ran a little orangeish. I was greeted by a purple pair of twin girls dressed in green polyester jumpsuits that had orange eyes (The orange eyes were kind of freaky!). They welcomed me to the Land of the Lost Sock, and ask if I was “THEE BIKER CHICK”.
Dazed and confused I told, “Some of my friends call me that.” The pair of purple girls got all excited jumping for joy, and each took a hand and led me down a green brick road. Meanwhile the thought of the “follow the yellow brick road” goes through my head. Not realizing it, I start humming the tune.
“Wow!” one of the purple girls shrieks,” That’s Ozzy’s favorite tune!”
“Who?” I ask.
“Ozzy! THEE MAN! That’s who were heading to see!”
“Okay”, I say and we continue down the green brick road.
Along the way we come to a sharp curve in the road where two bright blue do-do-like birds are sitting in a yellow tree. They turned out to be called twin tweedle birds, which always do everything together. They didn’t talk but their squawking in unison was quite annoying. I learned that there wasn’t many of them left because the Queen of Endive liked their vitals.
We continued on down the road, and started to come to a pink hut.
“This is Zee-Bart’s place! He’s a chilled dude!” One of the purple girls explained,” But we’ll come back later. He’s probably out catching some really knarly waves in the river.”
On down the road we continued, and we met a variety of colorful characters as we continued along. Among them was a black haired gal in a bright orange rain gear outfit who talked with a lisp. Her name was Crisp. She commented on my stylish dressing statement. Another character was a pink Lion with a slicked back gray mane who talked with a southern like accent and played music from what looked like a teal colored pickle. He kept referring to it as a slide and it sounded like a clarinet. Never did catch his name. Then there was Ralph who was an alligator wearing an orange cape and that had a persistent ticking. He had swallowed a clock and it was stuck in his intestines, but he didn’t seem to mind because it helped him to always be one time.
And then as we arrived at a HUGE lime green mansion I finally got to meet THEE MAN. He turned out to look like Kermit the frog casually wearing a sequined red vest, purple shades, with one silver earring of a bike hanging from his nose. He really needed to see me because I was the only one that could change his flat tire on his bike. Figures! I woke up before I changed the flat, and ask a whole lot of questions.
Strange dreams! And I can’t help to wonder what I’m doing to cause these. Oh, did I mention that I saw a job file from my work that I’ve been looking for about a month and a half? Or that I saw what I think was my other lost sock on THE MAN? He was wearing the orange and green BBTC sock I lost last week! All I can say is Strange! Is this a common side effect of something I’m doing to avoid the sickness? I would almost describe it as an acid trip of a dream.
